Topaz

The Problem

Topaz carry out warranty repairs on Toshiba hardware such as laptops and desktop computers and use a piece of software for monitoring the status of each piece of equipment. In turn, Toshiba have a system which allows approved agencies to log their warranty work, allowing them to charge Toshiba for the repairs they carry out. If they fail to log a repair in the system then they are unable to claim money back from Toshiba.

Requirements

Transferring data between the two systems was a manual process, consuming time and can lead to mistakes. Every repair job that does not get transferred doesn't get paid for so it was imperative to get this right.

Topaz required a solution that allowed the two pieces of software to talk to each other in order to synchronise data.

The solution must also be able to expand and change in the future as the Toshiba software is constantly changing and so we needed to cater for this.

The Solution

Using Microsoft Visual Basic, we created a web service that can talk to both systems to allow synchronisation of data.

By using software to communicate between the two systems, we gave Topaz the following benefits:

  • Increased productivity - The transfer of data was no longer a manual process.
  • Increased revenue - No jobs are missed by the application and so all work can be charged for.
  • Better accuracy - By allowing the application to transfer the information, we have eliminated any human error from this stage.
