The Fish Called Walter is a seafood restaurant based in Sindlesham, just outside of Reading, Berkshire. The restaurant is located in a converted stable, next to the Walter Arms pub and can comfortably seat 50 guests. The Fish Called Walters menu has an emphasis on everyday eating with a Mediterranean twist.
The Fish Called Walter needed a booking facility through their website that customers could use to make advanced bookings. Staff at the restaurant are non-technical and there is no computer on site so bookings must be sent remotely to the restaurant through methods other than email or online application.
Online marketing was also required in order to increase bookings through the web, particularly during the week as the weekends are normally busy enough.
An online booking form was added to the website allowing customers to reserve a table at the restaurant at their convenience. Bookings are sent to the restaurant via an SMS text message to a mobile phone that is always kept on site. The text message contains all details required to make a booking at the restaurant, meaning we don’t need to use a computer to collect the information at the other end.
Marketing is done via our email newsletter marketing solution. When making a reservation, users are asked if they would like to sign up for the monthly newsletter. Alternatively there is a box placed predominanlty on the homepage encouraging users to sign up. Once registered for the newsletter, users can then receive monthly updates from the restaurant which includes events, special offers, new food and announce the monthly prize draw winner. If customers wish to stop receiving updates from the website then they can simply unsubscribe from the newsletter by clicking a single link.
Our e-marketing solution allows us to analyse the effectiveness of each email communication in order to improve the results next time we send out a newsletter. Through analysing the following information we are able to trial and improve the communications each time:
Through improving the marketing communications we have greatly increased the number of bookings received at the Fish Called Walter and they now enjoy over 100 bookings per month solely through the website and undoubtedly many more over the phone as a result of our work.
