About Thomas Turner Gunmaker

Thomas Turner Gunmaker is a gun shop based in Caversham, Reading. Turners is one of only a handful of registered gun dealers in the south of England licensed to sell Shotguns and Rifles. Although the gun trade has been under increasing pressure from anti blood sports lobbyists and legislation, shooting is enjoying a renaissance and has never been as popular.

In 2007 the management at Turners felt that it was time they set up a website. Even though the business was successful and it was perceived that everyone in the area knew about Turners, the new manager, Tony Kear, felt that a website would be crucial to the future development of Turners and marketing the business to a younger and more technically savvy audience.

The Brief

Connexion's brief was to develop a cost effective website that captured the personable and knowledgeable service that the shop offers and that provides useful information to visitors on the services and products that the shop supplies. The goal of the site was not to sell online (which understandably is not permitted) but rather to try and attract people into the shop.

The Solution

Connexion developed a simple but user friendly website to a tight budget that emphasised the friendly knowledgeable team and the comprehensive range of stock. A blog was also introduced to help provide useful up to the minute information to customers.

The site built using web standards, optimised for the search engines and links to it were incorporated into their Yell advertising, ensuring that the new Turners website received as much relevant traffic as possible. The overall cost of the whole project including the online marketing came in at £2500.00

The website was launched on August the 1st 2007 and is now receiving nearly 50 unique visitors a day most of which is coming from organic search engine positioning.
